They say that the best camera is the one that you have in your hand, or in my case the one that I have in my pocket. After some persuasion, Sue bought aTG7, OM camera for my Christmas present. It’s an amazing little machine. Drop it, stand on it, clean it underwater and take extraordinary macro photographs with it, but as far as I’m concerned the great thing is that it fits in my trouser pocket. As a result and despite the weather, I’ve taken photographs in the woods as I walk my dog Ruby. I’ve been surprised by the similarities that my photographs have to my paintings. Also I’ve been surprised by the slightly idiosyncratic colour rendering that I’m getting. It might be the settings on the camera but the little splashes of exaggerated blue are really nice and so I shall leave well alone.

As to the future. I’m in the process of setting up a camera scanning system so that I can photograph using large-scale film which I can then digitise before making giclée prints. This process has occupied most of my time since Christmas and as a result I’ve done very little painting. I’m hoping that photography and painting can run side-by-side through the rest of this year.

As to today, my show at The Courthouse Otley is coming to an end on Sunday 22nd of this month. As I write this its raining. Of course it is, no surprises there; but the evenings are getting lighter and spring is surely on the way.
